Meet Danielle Hacche: A Phoenix-Based Artist Redefining Minimalist Art
On Color: Creating Mood with Thoughtful Palettes
Q: How do you approach color selection, and how does it contribute to the mood or message of your pieces? Are your palettes planned or more spontaneous?
A: I tend to get really fixated on certain colors, like a specific pink I love and cornflower blue, which you’ll often see in my work. I also enjoy blending unexpected colors together.
Danielle’s signature hues bring a sense of calm and curiosity to her pieces, seamlessly combining softness with strength. Whether it’s her use of soothing blues or vibrant, unexpected color pairings, each palette feels both intentional and spontaneous.
Local Connection: The Influence of Phoenix’s Design Legacy
Q: How has living in Phoenix influenced your art? What elements of local culture or landscape are reflected in your work?
A: You’ll see influences of Paolo Soleri and Frank Lloyd Wright in my line work, but the desert itself does not influence my work.
Although Danielle’s work isn’t directly shaped by the Sonoran desert, her nod to iconic architectural figures highlights Phoenix’s rich design heritage. Her linear compositions carry echoes of Soleri’s visionary urbanism and Wright’s organic geometry, merging tradition with contemporary aesthetics.
Creative Routine: Rituals That Spark Inspiration
Q: What’s a typical day in the studio like for you? Do you have any rituals or routines to get in the zone? Where do you go or what do you do when you’re feeling stuck creatively?
A: I always start with a really special drink—if it’s morning, I’ll have a nice coffee, or later in the day, a glass of wine. I usually have printouts of ideas that I’ve been collecting on my phone. I have a ton of art books in my studio, so if I’m feeling stuck, I’ll look through those.
Danielle’s creative process highlights the importance of personal rituals and surrounding oneself with inspiration. From curated printouts to art books, her studio is a sanctuary for creativity.
Dream Projects: A Vision for the Future
Q: Do you have any dream projects or collaborations you’d love to make happen someday? What new directions are you exploring?
A: I would love to work with a gallery in LA called Tappan. They always have really unexpected art and throw great openings. I’d also love to get picked up by a gallery in NYC, although my colors tend to work much better on the West Coast.
Danielle’s aspirations reflect her ambition to expand her reach while staying true to her aesthetic. From Tappan’s avant-garde art scene to dreams of a gallery in NYC, she envisions her work resonating far beyond Phoenix.
Balancing History and Originality: A Modern Approach to Geometric Traditions
Q: Your art is described as a hybrid of geometric traditions. How do you balance honoring historical influences while creating something original?
A: Well, that’s the hard part, right? You don’t want to directly follow a specific era as it will feel dated. I like to use forms and lines from that era but then take the color palette in a much more modern direction.
Danielle’s ability to reimagine geometric forms while introducing fresh, modern palettes is a testament to her creative vision. Her work honors the past without being beholden to it, offering something entirely new.
Danielle Hacche’s art captures the essence of modern minimalism while paying homage to timeless design principles. Whether through her thoughtful use of color, her nods to Phoenix’s architectural heritage, or her ambition to push boundaries, Danielle’s work invites us to see the world through a lens of calm and creativity. Keep an eye out for her next project—we’re certain it will be as inspiring as her journey so far.
