This James Beard Award nominated southern-style restaurant was designed to offer guests a welcoming farm-to-table dining experience in the heart of downtown Phoenix. The chef, Stephen Jones, asked the MCI team to design a space that reflected his Long Beach, CA roots while also honoring the southern style farm-fresh food he has perfected throughout his career. The color palette was inspired by the restaurant’s branding with black, white, pops of bright yellow. The bar top is zinc, making it both durable and beautiful. We added black penny tile to the bar front and bright yellow metal barstools to give the restaurant a bold graphic punch. MCI designed a mural of a blues musician, painted by local artist Isaac Caruso to look out over the bar. We even bought an old oak rolled-arm church pew and had it trucked from the other side of the country to make sure the space had a storied feel to it. We paired it with a custom-made zinc top table and black bentwood bistro chairs. We hung super modern geometric pendants made in Europe for contrast over the dining tables.
